The Ritual - Adam Nevill

I got my well manicured Claws into this for the “May 2014 Group read.Via "Horror Aficionados" group in Goodreads" The theme of the month was Horror Outside and I do have to say this fitted Perfectly.

"When four old University friends set off into the Scandinavian wilderness of the Arctic Circle, they aim to briefly escape the problems of their lives and reconnect with one another. But when Luke, the only man still single and living a precarious existence, finds he has little left in common with his well-heeled friends, tensions rise. With limited experience between them, a shortcut meant to ease their hike turns into a nightmare scenario that could cost them their lives. Lost, hungry, and surrounded by forest untouched for millennia, Luke figures things couldn’t possibly get any worse. But then they stumble across an old habitation. Ancient artifacts decorate the walls and there are bones scattered upon the dry floors. The residue of old rites and pagan sacrifice for something that still exists in the forest. Something responsible for the bestial presence that follows their every step. As the four friends stagger in the direction of salvation, they learn that death doesn’t come easy among these ancient trees"

Hands down right away! Adam plunges you in to the Plot, With no messing around. At once you feel you are there with them, Though every step of the way. Adam totally creates the feel of being in what you would perceive to be the Norwegian forest thick and dark and misty. I honesty couldn't put this book down, I just loved the whole intensively of it. From start to finish. The plot totally Twists around in the middle to the point I laughed out loud as I wasn't expecting it at all! I even researched the whole “black Metal sound and the drama of a real life murder case and my laughter soon stopped.” Didn't mean to say it put me off the book though!

“Adam Nevill” Is a one of those writers that I find a love for and he has a new fan here, So much so that I’m going to buy his other books and will be keeping a very close eye out for any of his new works! I absolutely loved the chars in the story too and there lingo if your not from England you will love the chars banter!

All in all a very Spooky atmospheric Novel and one I will prise highly in my horror collection a true novel for any modern day horror Fan!
